Is there a specific game you have suggestions, comments or improvements for? Post them here! You might not think your comments are valued but believe me when I say, EVERY COMMENT IS WELCOMED!
The Englipedia website started with one person's simple idea and him listening and absorbing the comments and suggestions of the people around him. Your voice matters!
Make sure you include the name of the activity you are posting about.

this is an awesome worksheet!!! esp the dot-to-dot part I didn't create the 'Jump Thru Hoops' worksheet, just made some serious improvements on it! It's even easy enough that I think it would even be pretty fun for students who don't like to study English. Glad you like it!

seeing that i only get 25 mins in class, i cut your w/k down to 4 sections.. and here are the problems I found while the kids were struggling through this w/k. Now we know the gap between your school and my school 1) color crossword - my kids dont know frog, grapes and blueberry! **pulling my hair out** 2) word find - 3rd year (idk about 1st and 2nd.. only use this wk for 3rd year) so on page 41, line 6, letter 14 .. its not letter 14, it should be letter 15. 3) math code = number 1 should be 29-56 + 28 .. not 29-56+18 number 3 i inserted the parenthesis so its 37 - (8 x7) ... apparently my kids did the subtraction first.. number 4 should be 100 - 56- 21 not 100 - 56 +21 ohh also for the color crossword.. i had to explain to them that "he and her together = they" so whats "you and I together".. i got a confusing look. Then I had to say ok, so he and her together is what in japanese (they replied karetachi) then i said ok.. you and me together in japanese (watashitachi) then i said .. what is watashitachi in english? Thats when they finally got the answer. so weird.

For the 3nen 'Who are you' game, get the students to do the writing first, then pair them up to work out the matching side. Could be a 'teaching suggestions' add on...
More thinking on the kids part and also more interesting I think?

Math codes - changed the math codes to properly add up. [glow=red,2,300]EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FIXED ON THE 'JUMP THRU HOOPS' WORKSHEET.[/glow] Thanks for all the great comments!

First, thanks for the "Who are you?" activity. Great fun. This is not necessarily an improvement, but an example of different usages. "Pants" in American English means "zubon/trousers" but in Japanese it means "underwear" Thus most of my students wrote the "boy WEARING pants".

For the ~ing 1st grade sheet only The lines for ì‚Á‚Ä‚¢‚é has one line too many 'makeing' I'll fix that tonight. Thanks for the heads up! I REALLY like the 'worksheet only' pages. Would love to see more of those... The reason I made a worksheet only page in the first place was to put worksheets that didn't have a game explanation provided. Sometimes, people only submit worksheets. But those 'Worksheet ONLY' pages weren't needed anymore with the way I relinked all the textbooks because now those worksheets found a home on each of their appropriate grammar pages, so I deleted those pages. Plus, was a pain in the ass, from the builder's perspectice, to always worry about going to one more page just to paste a worksheet on it. I can always be persuaded to bring these pages back, but let me hear reasons why you want them. They have to outweigh the reasons I've stated above because techically, as I said before, they aren't needed because they've found a home on the grammar page. Let's hear your reasons...

cause im lazy and sometimes I just want to be able to see whats available in front of me.
How about the worksheets that are attached as part os a game, but can really be used as a stand alone worksheet? Can they be put seperately from the game?

The qualms that with your last suggestion is 'a standard' would need to be created to decide what worksheets are stand alone worksheets.
I think it's ALL the worksheets or NONE. Let me think about it, fair enuf? Let me think about how it could be done without adding too much more work to loading a game.
Just for your pleasure reading, let me run you thru the steps a game gets loaded to the site.
1. I receive a game (and usually a worksheet too) and I immediately rename the files to match an index system I've created. 2. Any worksheet that is over 1/2 Mbs, I take all the pictures and throw them into an art program and resize the pictures and throw them back into the worksheet. I only have 500 Mbs of website space. Currently, 140 Mbs is being used. I think that number is incredibly low considering its 750 webpages and 300+ worksheets. But the only reason that was possible is because I've virtually gone through each worksheet and edit it down to its smallest size possible before I load it to the site. 3. Then, I take a snapshot of the worksheet and save that as a thumbnail, which is the thumbnail you click on to open a worksheet. 4. Then, I load the worksheet onto the website and load the thumbnail to a different website. 5. Then, I create a webpage for the game and transfer the game's explanation onto the page. 6. Then, I go out and get the worksheet's thumbnail 'location address' and paste it onto the page. 7. Then, I create a hyperlink that connects the thumbnail to the worksheet. 8. Next, I take the game's information and paste it into the 'All Games' area and the appropriate 'Grammar' page. 9. Last, I take the title of the game and paste it into the 'Recently Added' of the homepage and if a person's personal volunteer page, if they should have one.
This is the reason why I'm all for keeping the steps to load a game as basic as possible. The steps used to be longer but Diesel and Hellndie made suggestions that reduced the process by about 8 steps.

"Hugs and Kisses" Game
Loved it! Great Game!!!!!!
Easy to explain!!
My JTE wanted me to change the 3 cartoon characters of people though. She said that "Students don't know. Not popular."
Is that true?
(I did change softball to tennis.)
Thank you so much.

1. Bae Yong Joon 2. Kumiko Yamazaki 3. Mitsuo Terada 4. Akio Mori
Was she pulling my leg? Is that guy's nickname really HARD GAY ? ( I don't know Japanese Culture at all)

Is that true? (I did change softball to tennis.) Thank you so much. Hey Joseph, I'm glad you like the game. As far as the 3 cartoon characters, they are Bob Sapp, Ai-chan and Asashoryu. As far as the students not knowing them, I think your teacher might be a tad bit ignorant. While they might not the be the talk of every conversation in today's news, they are popular enough the students should have heard of them before, especially the last two. 1. Bob Sapp was really popular because, this is my opinion, he was one of Japan's poster children for the black community. He was the suckiest K-1 fighters who went up against Akebono, a former sumo giant and sucky K-1 fighter. 2. Ai-chan is Japan's shiny hope for ping-pong. She is the youngest girl in Japan to make it to the Olympics, I think she was 13 or 14 at the time. Now, she is twenty and in college but is still HUGELY popular in the table tennis community and young people across Japan. I think she might even be representing Japan again in the next Olympics. 3. Asashoryu is HUGELY popular as one of the best sumo wrestlers in Japan. Within in the past year, he had a huge breakdown and went back to Mongolia, but since that time, he has come back to Japan and has made a pretty good comeback, considering how heavily he was in the media. So, I think your JTE might not have her finger on the pulse of Japanese pop culture. And, even if they don't know them, educating them to who they are is part of learning.

Mitsuo Terada 4. Akio Mori Was she pulling my leg? Is that guy's nickname really HARD GAY ? ( I don't know Japanese Culture at all) Hard Gay was a guy that was MASSIVELY huge a couple years back for being another weakass comedian who was only known saying 'woo' and doing pelvic thrusts into the air. Everytime I saw him on the TV I wanted to punch him in his nose but students, especially ES students loved him. He is also known as "HG". I don't know why he was called 'gay' because Japan knew what 'gay' meant...but go figure, I've never really understood Japanese humor and logic. Bae Yong Joon is more commonly know as Yon-Sama. I call him 'scarf boy'. He used to be huge about 4 years ago for acting in a romantic drama series. Honestly, he is more known and loved by middle age women but that doesn't mean the younger generation should be ignorant of him. However, he is Korean and not Japanese so I can kinda understand why he wouldn't be know by the younger generation. Meaning, Japanese society tends only to focus on Japanese people, inside and outside of the country, so young kids only know what they know based upon what the media chooses to focus on. I don't know Mitsuo Terada that well, besides that he's a comedian and my JTE likes him. Kumiko Yamazaki is a pretty popular Japanese manga character. I think she may be better known at the HS level, but JHS students should have heard of her. A really good site that might help you out with information on Japanese people, is CLICK HERE. It hasn't been updated in awhile but it's still really good.

I've mostly been sucking ideas from this website, leach-like, without remarking on them- but I would just like to say that "Juicy Sabotage" went very nicely with my 3rd graders today, and I would recommend it.
One note- I was caught in a lurch and didn't have time to prepare the cards, so I substituted a list with numbered fruits and 10-sided die. This worked very well, and if you're the type who just has a D10 laying around, it can make for very quick lesson preparation.

leeching is fine. no one will blame you for it. it's great that people contribute, but there are no rules to leeching. i think that's what makes EP great: NO PRESSURE. now that you feel guilty though, write down your variant (in full) and submit it. it will be a great help.

Error downloading worksheet For New Horizon Unit 9 Ing Game:
Up & Down Submitted by: Patrick Bickford Date added: 10-14-08
This looks like a great activity that I would like to try, but I get an error every time I try to download the 3rd (character set) worksheet. Is there some other way to access this?

I too am a little confused as to why you are getting an error message on that 3rd character set. I tried opening all the files and they all opened up without a hitch. The direct link to that link is: jhsenglipediaproject.com/Documents/JHS_Textbook_Game_UpAndDown03%20-%20Worksheet.docThat particular file is a tad big because there are a bunch of pictures on it so it may take a little longer to open. Let me know if you still can't open it.

I don't know why it didnt open earlier (the browser didnt even try to open it. I jumped directly to a 504 error page). But the direct link worked without a hitch, Thanks!
btw. unrelated topic. Is there a way to upload corrections or improvements to the worksheets?

Is there a way to upload corrections or improvements to the worksheets? I've been thinking about this ever since Englipedia started. I have yet to solve how to smoothly allow this to happen, but I have had people directly submit updates directly to: schoolofthought@jhsenglipediaproject.com If you have any ideas to make this easier in the future, I'm all ears...

I'll try this Jump Through Hoops today.
I may have spotted a typo. It looks like No. 3, under Detailed Explanation should, perhaps, be "irrelevant" (not pertinent) rather than "irreverent" (not respectful).

BTW, I've done that Jump Thru Hoops game about 20 times at various schools in various prefectures and it is batting 100% as the level of fun-ness.
