We often come across funny mistakes when teaching...
Like when I was teaching can/ can't. When I asked this one girl "Can you ride a horse?" and she said, "No, I can't .... but.... etto ettoo...... oh! I can ride a man!".
Like when we were doing this dialogue .. Immigration officer: "Do you have a return ticket?" traveler: "Here it is." so I ask a student, "What if you didn't have the return ticket?" She goes, "Here it isn't.".
Like when doing the dialogue about 'discribing personal belongings', I ask this guy "What does your wallet look like?"... He goes... "etto etto etto......... erm..... oh! It's bambi's parents' skin!" This puzzled me for a while... and figured out he wanted to say it's buckskin.
Like when I was teaching last night, I ask this felame student, "Have you ever been on a helicopter?" she goes, "Yes, I've been on a helicopter in asshole." Ok... of course she didn't mean to say that but to my ears thats what I heard... so I double check... "asshole???"... and she smiles and says, "Yes. in asshole."... then it hit me. "Aso.(Mt. Aso)".
I love teaching. ;D

hellndie, I'm so happy I made your day! junkdna, I think she meant 'piggyback ride'... at least I hope so!.. or not. otaku, yeah eslhq, too. but I gotta say, this is my favorite here. I have another crazy mistake... well this is the craziest ever.. When I was working for a language school, we had a brand new American teacher. When the Japanese manager was helping him settling down his apt., getting the things he needed, she was asking him bunch of questions... but unfortunatelly, her English wasn't so good. "Do you want a heater?".... "Do you want a microwave?" things like that...but when she wanted to ask if he wanted a rice cooker, she just didn't know how to say that in English so she just blurted out in Japanese with her sweet voice. "Do you want a sui han jar?" (rice cooker) The new teacher , with a deep blush and said, "Sure... I LOVE Japan!!" I was laughing my head off... Got it?

And I love Japan too! =) I love it when girls ask me how long I am. raindrop, you are a dirtyminded young lady! you have gotten all us nice people thinking naughty things! why look at my responses... I would never otherwise type such things.

tisk tisk, junkdna. your latest comment went a bit too far! no no no I'm not dirty minded. I'm simply introducing some of the language gaffes so all of you dedicated teachers can analyze what causes those mistakes when students are speaking in English.
