Hey you guys ever TT the ABC's in JHS? My JTE wants me to help him with a lesson regarding that today, and I have a few ideas, but I don't know if their too ES-esque. I.e. boggle and hangman and stuff like that. If you guys have any other advice on things to do it be great. The contort your body to make letters is funny, but i don't think the JHS kids will go for it. Thanks

Have you looked over on the ES section of the site? jhsenglipediaproject.com/esp_abcs.aspx This could give you some great ideas. I think Boggle & Hangman are games more geared for AFTER students have learned the spellings of words, desho? Maybe, a concentration type game where there are 52 cards (upper/lowercase) and they have to match the cards? 1. Split the class up into groups, with each group receiving a set of cards. 2. For the speaking part, every card the student flips up they have to say the card before they can flip up the next card. 3. If they match an uppercase letter to its respective lowercase, they race to the board and write both the upper/lowercase. This should thin out the students writing on the board so you/JTE can monitor the stroke order as the students write them. 4. Once completed, they receive a point for their team (one team member is at each of the tables), and return to the table and keep playing.

I just had that class, and while the students had already learned the letters, and it was review, my games were a total flop. My JTE decided that it was time for me to sink or swim in the world of teaching, and was like today you will run the class. Yea...don't think we'll be doing that again for a while... thanks for the idea though, it sounds really great, i'll definetly use it next time.

Jed,
I got that submission you sent me with those dominoes. Give me a couple days, and I'll have them up. I feel castrated at work sitting there in front of my computer all day and not being able to work on the website....gggrrr!!!
