Yo, If any of you can check this to make sure I'm not cursed it be appreciated. I was searching for an activity for was/were + present progressive. And the PPP activity seemed great. So while I can't print from my computer, I borrowed one of teachers comps to print from there. Now on my computer everything appeared in words, words that made sense, however on my teachers computer they were wingdings. And only wingdings. Naturally the printed version was no better. The only difference i can think of between my computer and my JTE's is that mine doesn't have Word. I'm stuck with that lame open office crap. But still i don't know what the deal is. Am I cursed to ruin all the ccomputers at my school, or is there something wrong with the sheet? Thanks

Nothing is wrong with computers you are using...the reason it showed up as unreadable 'wingdings' on your teacher's computer is because it doesn't have the 'Kristen' font loaded on it. Just change the font to something more common, like 'Comic Sans'. If that doesn't work, go back to your communal computer, the one where you can see the font, change it there and save it onto a flashdisk and open it on your teacher's computer.
BTW, I emailed the person at your local BOE about you not having Microsoft Office on your computer at school.

Cool, thanks. Yea I already just re-wrote the whole document. The computer I'm using is the one at my desk, and open office was reading each text line as a text box, but it wouldn't let me change it. So i just re-made it on my comp and got it to work that way.
Also thanks for the email on my behalf, if it does anything awesome. If somewhere a company somewhere makes a matyr out of me for this, you'll have your matyr...lol.

I highly doubt any martyr will be made. I wouldn't be too concerned about you being fired for merely mentioning that you don't have Microsoft Word on your computer...
About the PPP worksheet, the person who made this worksheet created it with all those text-boxes.
Why? Who knows...it could have been made that way because the person felt comfortable using text-boxes, they didn't know how to make a worksheet any other way (I was at this level of worksheet-making once upon a time), or it could have been because they wanted to put text outside of the margin areas...who knows.
Creating a worksheet using individual text-boxes is a real pain to edit if the user so desires but we all live and learn. Hopefully, this won't happen in the future.

LOL, The worksheet is the way it is because I create all my worksheets in PowerPoint as I HATE Word and it's limited (or my limited) abilities with positioning things on the page as I want them.
Submissions to this site require Word - so it's just a quick and dirty paste into a Word doc so I can share them.
My apoligies if this makes things difficult on the download end. This is the last time I'll be teaching most of these lessons, so an overhaul to Word probably won't happen anytime soon.
I do appreciate the edit on the doc content though! Wish this site would have been around 2 year ago!

No worries, Danielle! It would be nice for Englipedia to start including PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat files but I'm not confident in Japan's education system and their lack of embracing technology, especially when it comes to technological tools accessible to the common ALT. BTW, I'm glad you liked the small editing job I did on your worksheet. I usually edit EVERY worksheet received on the site in some way or manner. While this might be a pain and time consuming, I think it's worth it when someone goes to use the worksheets. I saw your PPP worksheet had individual text boxes but didn't think it would be that much of a problem...but it turned out that it was because an ALT didn't the font you used in your worksheet. Oh well, I don't think a website with over 800 pages and 500 worksheets is always going to run smoothly, hence the forum to talk about the problems.
