Why am I not surprised? I didn't post this original article here, but I did post it at my blog. What kills me the most--beyond the obvious of giving a kerosene-soaked guy a cigarette--is that SMOKING IS PROHIBITED in the building. Is it any wonder things are like they are here in Japan? mdn.mainichi.jp/national/news/20080704p2a00m0na005000c.html

Its sounds the like the same story, but it seems like its a follow-up report whereas the one i posted before was when the even just happened. But still, Did you read the last paragraph...A police experiment proved the clothes wouldn't ignite from just a cigarrette lighter...Aichi police determined that the lighter ignited the clothes...buh? What a great way to say the exact opposite things in the same paragraph. Also I want to know what experiment they ran to come to the conclusion that an open flame (of any size) would ignite something soaked in kerosene. I mean the fumes of kerosene are flammable, so why would a piece clothing soaked in it be any different. Damn I usually under the impression that cops don't know what they're doing, but this really takes the cake.

For some reason this reminds me of an article I read a while back about how the police don't trust forensics. Which helps explain why so few autopsies are done in Japan. The article also talked about how the police just want to rule everything a natural death.
Police A: "Yup. Heart attack again." Police B: "They're really droppin' like flies, huh?" Witness: "Um...... there are bullets and blood pouring out of open wounds." Police A: "Exactly. He died of a heart attack because of the bullets. Natural causes. Yup."
