An acronym is basically defined as abbreviations pronounced as words, like NASA or NATO. Whereas, initialisms are abbreviations that are formed using the initial components of a phrase or name. They are most commonly seen as a group of individual letters, like FBI or CEO.
I'm always interested in both of these because I often use them in class to form a mnemonic link between what the students know and the alphabet I'm teaching. Over on the Englipedia website, I came up with a list and was wondering if there were any that I missed?
OK, CD, DVD, TV, AM, PM, FBI, UFO, YMCA, KO, WC, CU, SOS, CM, ECC, DS, PSP, SP, HDD, YKK, KFC, BLT, NTT, NHK, TNT, MLB...
Any others?
