OITA (Kyodo) The daughter of a former senior member of the Oita prefectural board of education who was arrested over a recruitment scandal has resigned from her teaching job, board officials said Wednesday.
The 23-year-old daughter of Tetsuro Yano, 52, was an elementary school teacher in Saiki. Yano allegedly gave two education officials gift vouchers worth \1 million each in return for favorable treatment for his daughter when she was seeking a teaching job. The officials were later arrested
It is the first time a teacher employed through illegitimate manipulation of recruitment exam results in Oita has quit.
"While I was not aware of the illegitimate manipulation, I must in part take responsibility for it," the teacher said in her resignation letter dated July 17, according to the board of education. "I hope the current turmoil will subside and public trust in teachers will be maintained."
The woman started teaching in April 2007 but was frequently absent after the scandal broke, educational officials said.

Am I reading this correctly? It seems to imply that there are numerous other teachers who received their position through illegal means..AND that the government/B.O.E/public are aware of who these people are....yet she is the first ever to leave her job due to it? First to quit...not even to be fired...
