As in introducing oneself? Or as your first lesson?
If it's introducing oneself, I always just go with telling them (that as an American), we don't introduce ourselves like the Japanese do. Very few others want to hear about what your favorite sport is or what fruit you like. (Great cultural difference lesson.) I then tell them that as you make friends, your share information of that nature with them in natural conversation. HOWEVER, since we are practicing self intros for class, here is how you do one in English: My name is x, I enjoy blah and blah, and it's nice to meet everyone.
"Welcome to the party pal."

Pakalika, Welcome to the forum! A self-intro I've done with a class in the past is either split the class into groups/pairs and give them questions about myself. Prior to class, I've put about 25 strips of paper around the class. Each strip has one fact about me and/or my country. The students simply have to go around collect information and take note of the answer. Then, if you want to practice writing, have them choose 5 things about me and write about it. With 5-10 minutes left in class, I open up the class for questions. I tell them they can ask me anything and this usually gets them excited because they go straight to the embarassing questions. Any Japanese question asked, gets responded to with "Nihongo wakanai..." I like this activity cuz it gets the students up and moving around AND I don't have to do anything.

another good easy one (usually works)
is to get the kids to make a sentence saying something they like and don't like (doesn't have to be true) using the 1st letter of their name They can choose which name to use.
ie Hello, My name is Ishikawa, I like ice cream but I don't like Italy. etc
give the kids time to think and allow them to ask you if they are low level or allow them to use their dictionaries etc
if they are higher level, you could get them to repeat the last person,
eg He is Ishikawa, he likes ...., he doesn't like ..... I like ..... and I don't like ......
You could also use ABC cards they have to choose 1 and make a sentence there are many options
