OK, so I'm redoing the wonderful Eigo Note curriculum. I think I have the activities for the 5th year book but I'm looking at the 6th year teacher's guide now. How realistic do you think the following are? Keep in mind it is once a week for 45 minutes and no written anything to help them.
Lesson 3 Birthday
In the second of 4 lessons, students are supposed to be able to say their birthday. Months are introduced in the first class. A week later the ordinal numbers (1st,2nd 3rd). Feasible?
Lesson 6 want to go
In 4 lessons students tell where (what country)they want to go and why.
It probably can be done with cut and paste and my JHS students do it all the time, but without any written hints and only 4 classes, what do you think?
Lesson 7 daily routine
Again on the 4th class in this lesson, students introduce their daily routine.
Here is the example in the teacher's book:
Hello, my name is.... I get up at 6:00. I go to school at 7:30. I take a bath at 10:00. I go to bed at 10:30. Thank you.
Lesson 8 The Big Turnip Let's make an 'original' play
OK the 4th lesson students make a play based on the Big Turnip.
Here are the examples the teacher's book gives for the script
Please come here.
What's the matter?
It's heavy.
I'm powerful.
I'm not very strong.
Do your best!
Pull at the same time.
We can't do it.
I'm tired.
I'm thirsty.
Yo-heave-ho! ;D ;D
2 classes to hear the story in English and 2 to make and perform it.
Lesson 9
Say hello, your name, your future dream and the reason why (in Japanese)
What do you all think? I think that some students would be able to do this, but definitely not all and for those students they are likely to have a negative view of English before they enter JHS. It just seems to be a huge gap from the 1st book (My name is... I like... I'd like juice, please)
If you think the above are possible, would you walk me through your lessons so I can get a good idea on how to do it. I can't see the Eigo Note lessons being very successful.
Thank you for any comments in advance.
