The inner thoughts of the average 1st grade JHS student:
Unit 1: WTF!?!? We just finished studying about the alphabet, and now we are studying actual English words. I think there is something missing but I'm just a student and I'm sure the teachers know best.
Unit 2: Now, I'm responsible to know how to spell 25+ English words. This is a pain in the ass but I can do it thanks to many hours of rote memorization practice and juku. However, I still don't know how to properly say these words.
Unit 3: Things are moving pretty quick! Not only am I responsible for double the amount of words, now I have to start remembering multiple English grammar points. I still don't know how to say half of these words, but I've found a solution to this by superscripting everything in katakana. I wonder why the ALT's pronunciation sounds so weird compared to everyone else's, including our teacher?
Unit 4: Okay, I'm starting to mix up all the spellings because there are too many words I have to remember. The other day, I wrote 'bog' instead of 'dog'. This English thing is hard.
Unit 5: The ALT did a game today but I was really bad because I'm so confused about this whole English language. It feels like I was thrown into a swimming pool without any knowledge of knowing how to swim and it's getting harder to stay afloat. Every unit in the textbook feels like another brick added.
Unit 6: I give up!
NOTE: Inner thoughts vary based upon student.
