Hey everyone, who has Halloween lesson plans/activities this year? Anyone care to share what they are going to do? I've exhausted all mine and need something new. Was hoping you folks had something you could share. (And yes, I will be checking Englipedia proper. ) Thanks.

ES. The teachers asked me to do the Monster Drawing game but this is 1st grade, I'm doubting it will fly. Plus, there's the added fact that they want me to teach face parts and I don't know if they students even know body parts yet. Teaching them face and body parts at the same time would be a disaster. I'm thinking maybe face parts and mask drawing, and maybe Monster FACE Drawing coupled with FUKUWARAI. Hmmmm, 1st graders....

You can teach eyes, nose, and mouth easily. Ask the students whether the face should have big/small/mini/jumbo features and then have the homeroom teacher draw a jack-o-lantern face. Very easy and the students really get into this. If they know up, down, left, right you can do fukuwarai as a class. If you have more time you can pass out a pumpkin shaped worksheet and get the kids to draw their own faces.
If your school has the Genki English CDs you can download the new Halloween "trick or treat" song. It's filled with foods and ghosts and other fun Halloween characters. There is the standard song and then the freaky Halloween song. I haven't tried it yet but it's a really fun song.

I've done a multiple games at the same time. Most of the games materials I got from MES.
I had multiple tables going at the same time and the students got to go from table to table as they wanted, however, for 1st graders, you might need to restrict them a bit. I handed out a special point card to each student and whenever they won a game, they would receive points.
Table 1: CONCENTRATION - you could make cards with the parts of the face on it and the students could play concentration. Table 2: RACE ACROSS THE ROOM - I had various Halloween flashcards at one side of the room and students would race over and get one and bring it back. The first student to cross the finish line and say the Halloween word would receive a point. Table 3: COLORING CONTEST - Students could choose various Halloween coloring sheets and color them and the best colorers could receive points. Table 4: WAR - I had number cards scattered on table and students would choose a card at random. Then, they would flip them up and call out the number. The higher card receives a point (but not for their point cards). When the student received 3 points they could receive a point for their point cards.
When students received a certain amount of points, they could receive various prizes. I was allowed to bring in candy ONLY for this lesson to give away as prizes.

long ago, I bought oranges and gave one to each student and had them draw face on those oranges. Jack-o'-lantern with oranges... it turned out to be a lot of fun and they could also eat the oranges after Halloween. "Let's draw eyes!".... "Let's draw a mouth..."... "Which one is the cutest?".... I don't know.. it's just an idea.
