Nice article find!
This move of Nagoya and Gifu to switch over to private English companies is just another example of how serious Japan takes its English education. I'm not saying that private ALT companies have less qualified applicants than JET...I think both are quite equally lacking in experience.
However, I would love to see JUST ONE English company value an ALT's experience. I think EVERY English company I've ever seen are money grubbin' whores. If they actually valued their ALTs and wanted to have experienced ALTs stay on with their company, they would offer an increased salary every year the ALT recontracted AND they would be more active in helping ALTs find apartments to live, rather than slamming them into college dorm Leo Palaces.
I think the best option for Japan's English future is just to chuck everything out the window (MEXT's English plans, textbooks, dispatch English companies, etc) and start all over again. I think it's sick how English in many Asian countries has turned into a money hungry whoring business.

The implosion of the ALT system may come sooner than I expected. I've been predicting nasty implosion within 10 years. These dispatch companies are going to MEXT the whole idea of ALTs over like NOVA MEXTed over English conversation classes.

The comments on that article make me angry enough to not comment on the article.

Rollypop,
Are you talking about the comments made by myself and Junkdna, or the comments posted over on the article itself?
I read some of those comments over on the article...a lot of people like to talk about things they don't know very much about. Only a couple people actually had a clue.

On the article! Not by you guys.
It`s just what you said -- majority of the people commenting there were talking authoritatively about things they obviously knew very little about.
I am going to restrain myself from going on a rant. I`m pretty sure there`s a character limit per post, anyway.
