well written.
yeah, and who hasn't been to Thailand where prices are always raised when non-Thais are involved? frankly, in that situation, i'm of the mind, if the price suits you, pay it. if not, move on.

First off....not wanting to step on anyone's toes here, and just to point out. Japan Times and Japan Today do not keep their articles online forever and to keep the continuity of the thread for future reference I would suggest copying the entire article and pasting here too.........That being said I think that Debito has a tendency to overdo things and likes playing his role of activist. I have never met the man personally and realize he hasn't been named in the article but who else filed a lawsuit about discrmination at an osen? I appreciate this author taking the time to put a little extra light on the subject. Japan in my opinion needs to educate it's people more about improving it's relationships with foreigners. Hell even the PM has trouble with names...Tony Brown, Tony Brown, Tony Brown...... My point being that manners here are lacking towards foreigners in my opinion because Japanese people in general are not taught from a young age to understand that there are differences between people. Also they dont "think" deeply enough about how their actions can or do affect how others may look at them. They also ignore instead of face difficult issues and from my experience that is due to an attitude that by taking that road of action the "problem" will disappear. This is not meant to come across as bashing Japanese people please dont anyone take it that way for that is not my intent.

(^^) Personally I hope that they continue to NOT sit next to me, I like the space. ;D I will never understand the desire of some "people" here to actually want some stinky smelly drunk, or some noisy "heebie jeebie" HS girl, etc etc sitting their butts down next to them on their train ride to where ever. Damn the things people want these days all in the name of fitting in. For them alone I wish that their desires and dreams come true, the more they sit next to them the more room their is for me. I think too that many of these people need, seriously need to one get a life, and two....turn off their d**m discrimination/I'm the gaijin here look at me trying my hardest to assimilate bs meters, take a deep breath or two, swallow a bottle of valium, and get on with their lives. ;D Change will come, slowly I am sure, not in our grandkids generation maybe, but it will come by just being who you are and quitting trying to change every little damn thing they get their noses bent out of joint about.
